Summary:
Improving Classroom Effectiveness is a great tool for teachers. This book is based on cognitive concepts of instruction. Its concepts are organized on what teachers do. Teachers prepare to teach, introduce new concepts, expand the concepts following the introduction, teach thinking patterns, and transfer concepts. This book uses those ideas in the basic organization. The concepts lead the teacher to develop a theory of instruction as opposed to operating on intuition. The theory based on psychological concepts allows teachers to develop applications that fit their styles. Evidence-based concepts are presented in this book and are oriented toward what teachers do to plan and deliver instruction. To support those ideas Harold Jones provides a strong application of intrinsic motivation. In each chapter, there are Theory into Practice sections that explain some of the theory and how it relates to classroom practices. Overall, this book will help teachers improve their teaching skills by providing new ways of thinking. Book jacket.
