- Located in the heart of downtown, the Klaus Synagogue was, since the early 18th century, a place of Jewish learning, religion and tradition. The intention of the Court Jews Lemle Moses Reinganum synagogue and house of study was to praise the Lord and the salvation of the benefactor. The Klaus developed in the 19th century to the center of Jewish orthodoxy. While the religious and liberal part of the Jewish community's main synagogue, the Orthodox Jews of Mannheim gathered in the Klaus Synagogue, 230 years after its founding, the Klaus was a haven for the oppressed and persecuted Jewish community. It remained, until the deportation of the Jews in Mannheim in 1940, the last place of Jewish life in the city. Apart from a plaque found no trace of it. Even the address F1, 11 is gone. The memories of people, which was the spiritual home of Klaus, are summarized in this anthology. They convey a sense of the spiritual power that emanated from this place. Contributions from well-known authors provide a historical overview of this device, which is one of the oldest of its kind in Germany. The memorial book bears witness to the beauty and the brutal end of a perished world. The world of Mannheim Klaus lives on again in the basement compiled by Volker Keller. His research into the synagogue and study house in F 1, 11 extended over a period of 30 years. The result is a wonderful book about the centuries-old tradition of Orthodox Jewish life in Mannheim's center. From the Testament of Moses Court Jews Lemle Reinganum about the stories of the rabbi's daughter Helwine Lindmann to the memories of Jack Goldman, the editor introduces the reader to a wealth of detail without ever being boring.
