Summary:
Sexual Assault in Canada is the first English-language book in almost two decades to assess the state of sexual assault law and legal practice in Canada. Inspired by the ten-year a anniversary of Jane Doe's historic legal victory against Toronto police for sex discrimination and negligence in the policing of sexual assault, this book undertakes a multi-faceted assessment of the progress of feminist reforms to Canadian sexual assault law and practice and reflects on the state of activism around sexual assault. It articulates a myriad of new ideas, such as national standards for the prosecution of sexual assault and a new cause of action for the wrongful unfounding of sexual assault complaints, as well as inspired activist strategies, such as the Garneau Sisterhood's poster campaign, to inform the next decade of research and revision for this critical area of law and policy.
