- Summary:
- Intended to bridge the gap between popular approaches to leadership and more theoretical approaches, this text can be used as a core text in undergraduate and graduate courses in management, leadership studies, educational leadership, public administration, nursing and allied health, and social work. It can also be used as a supplementary text for a core course in organizational behavior, or as an overview text in an MBA curriculum. The text analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of 12 leadership theories and shows how each theoretical approach can be applied in real organizations. Following the same format to aid comparison, each chapter includes three case studies, plus a questionnaire to help the reader apply the approach to his own leadership style or setting. There are also chapters on women, culture, and ethics in leadership. Throughout the text, icons lead students to video, audio, and journal and reference articles on a companion web site. A teacher website contains printable versions of the chapter questionnaires, along with other resources. This sixth edition contains a new chapter on servant leadership. Northouse is affiliated with Western Michigan University. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
