Summary:
Pierre Leduc is a man who no longer expects anything of life. In his late 30s, he is an Eastern European literature professor at a Quebec university. Resigned to solitude, he takes solace in translating the works of Polish poet Edward Stachura. His father, dying of cancer, leaves Pierre the fortune he obtained questionably, but Pierre does not want the ill-gotten money. One day, Pierre encounters a woman he abandoned thirteen years before, and learns he has a daughter. Reluctant at first, he eventually admits paternity and seeks out a relationship with his daughter.
