Summary:
Since the end of Communism, Jews from around the world have visited Poland to tour Holocaust-related sites. A few come seeking their roots and an encounter with the "real Poland." For their part, a growing number of Poles are fascinated by all things Jewish. Lehrer explores the intersection of Polish and Jewish memory projects and the encounters and personal quests that inform them, as they meet in the historically Jewish neighborhood of Kazimierz in Krakow. She makes her own journey part of the story as she argues that Jews and Poles use tourist spaces, institutions, interpersonal exchanges, and cultural representations to make sense of their historical inheritances.
