Summary:
The volume has been shaped by the feminist dialogic hermeneutic that underlies Carleen Mandolfo's 2007 Daughter Zion Talks Back to the Prophets. Four of the essays were commissioned for the Biblical Hebrew Poetry Section of the Society's 2008 annual meeting in Boston, and 12 more were invited from other voices in the Hebrew Bible guild over the next few months. The topics include the form of Zion's suffering in Lamentations, beauty and fruitfulness as spiritual fulfillment, shared memory of Yhwh's relationship with Jerusalem in Ezekiel 16, Zion's body as a site of God's motherhood in Isaiah 66:7-14, and the daughter's joy. Mandolfo herself responds with the essay Daughter Zion Talks Back to Her Interlopers. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the paperbound edition; Brill publishes the hardbound.
