"Ibn ʻAskar's history of Málaga is frequently mentioned and quoted by Andalusian authors of the 7th/13th and 8th/14th centuries. Its title is al-Ikmāl wa ʼl-iʻlām fī ṣilat al-Iʻlām bi-maḥāsin al-aʻlām min ahl Mālaḳa al-kirām, suggesting that it is a continuation of the Iʻlām of the Málagan scholar Aṣbag̲h̲ b. al-ʻAbbās (d. 592/1196). By Ibn al-K̲h̲aṭīb [q.v.], however, for whom the work was a main source of the Iḥāṭa , it is called Maṭlaʻ al-anwār wa-nuzhat al-abṣār, etc. There are other variants, including the simple and commonly used title Taʼrīk̲h̲ Mālaḳa. At the time of the author's death the work was unfinished, and the task of completing it fell to Ibn K̲h̲amīs ..., who seems to have flourished somewhere around the middle of the first half of the 7th/13th century. The one extant manuscript ... is incomplete .... The biographies of Málagan notables included in it have a distinct literary value in that they offer, in addition to biographical data, worthwhile specimens of biographees' poetry ..."--Encycl. of Islam.
