Published in English and French concurrently in 1686 as (pt. 1) of the Travels. Three other volumes, with general title page "Voyages de Mons. le Chevalier Chardin", were published in Amsterdam in 1711. The last volume, announced by Chardin in his preface to this edition, was never published. (Cf. DNB).

Engraved frontispiece portrait of the author (plate) signed: D: Loggan ad vivum sculp.
"The coronation of Solyman III. the present King of Persia" (caption title) begins text and new pagination on 5A1r (caption title is *4). It is a translation of Chardin's "Le couronnement de Soleiman troisième", first published in Paris in 1671.
Title-page may be a cancel.
The first of four parts; the remainder were separately published in another ed., 1711; and all four parts were first collected and published in 1811.
Includes two indexes, one (*1-3) bound following part 1; the other (4U2-4) bound at the end.
Signatures: pi² ([pi]1 engraved) a-c² B-3I² [chi]1 (engraved) 3H-3X² 4A-4Y² (*)⁴ (- (*)4); ²[chi]² 5A-5U⁴.
Nos. 265-330 omitted in the paging of pt. 1; royal patent ([1] leaf), beginning "He who is, He is God", engraved, inserted following p. 216.
