- Summary:
- The 15th-century Latin dialogue pits the Old Testament figure of Solomon, the embodiment of wisdom, against the medieval peasant Marcolf, who is ragged and foul-mouthed but quick-witted and verbally adept. Here on facing pages are a Latin version printed about 1488 and a Middle English translation printed in 1492, both from the Antwerp workshop of Gerard Leeu who began printing for the English market about a decade after Caxton did. The Middle English is glossed at the foot of the page. Medieval Institute Publications is at Western Michigan University. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
