- Summary:
- Over the centuries Jews and Christians have interpreted the Psalms in very different ways and it is only since the mid-twentieth century that the two traditions have learnt to work side by side. This innovative essay collection is a collaborative work, with one approach responding constructively to the other. The papers are by internationally renowned Jewish and Christian scholars of the psalms, and cover areas as diverse as Qumran studies, medieval Jewish interpretation, illuminated liturgical Psalters, Jewish cantillation, Chagall's church windows, ancient psalmody, and studies of the Psalter as a Book. Musical and artistic representations of selected psalms, together with a colour plate section, are included. Book jacket.
