Summary:
In the decades since the Second World War, immigration has reshaped the racial, ethnic, religious, and linguistic diversity of many countries. While policies, programs, discourse, and public opinion vary across countries, concerns about social cohesion have been persistent and have increased in the wake of anti-immigrant politics and global economic insecurity.
Diverse Nations, Diverse Responses offers a rich overview of the historical, demographic, and political forces that shape social cohesion. It also provides a comparative analysis of the policy goals that have been pursued, the programs that have been implemented, the ways that social cohesion has been defined and measured, and the effects of such issues on immigrants, minorities, and host communities. The volume adds a cross-national dimension to ongoing conversations about social cohesion. It will appeal to researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners interested- in immigration, diversity management, and the factors that affect policy choice, diversity, and outcomes. Book jacket.
