An imperfect copy having been obtained by Mr. Kearsly, and published by him, without permission from the author, rendered it necessary to give a correct and authentic edition of a work, that has so much engaged the attention, and conversation of the world. For this purpose Mr. Murray, the present publisher, applied to Mr. Hastings, and obtained his consent."--Editor's preface.
