Fourth, To the Abbe Syeyes, a member of the French National Assembly; accepting the Abbe's challenge on the subject of government, by offering to defend the republican against the monarchical system.

Also issued in publisher's The writings of Thomas Paine, 1792. Cf. Evans 24658 and Bristol B8098.
Signed continuously with Paine's "Letter addressed to the Abbe Raynal," which precedes this title in the collection.
The letters to the Earl of Shelburne and Sir Guy Carlton were originally published in 1782 as Number XII of the American Crisis, and a Supernumerary Crisis (1782), respectively.
