Summary:
A physicist and science educator, mostly at the college level, for 20 years, Steinberg (City College of New York) took a year sabbatical and spent it teaching science at a public high school in a poor neighborhood of New York City. He kept a diary, and presents it here, but not in its original form, exactly. He has rearranged some events so that each chapter--in theory one each for 12 months--illustrates a critical theme of science education. He also draws somewhat on his teaching experience at other times and places. He has not indexed it. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
