Summary:
([Challenger 51-L explosion footage]) For scientific and technical purposes, all shuttle launches of this type are recorded by a myriad of cameras at different fixed points. On January 28, 1986, the Challenger shuttle self-destructed shortly after lift-off, apparently because of the failure of a simple mechanical part. This is a compendium of all the film taken by NASA of this event.
([Memorial service for 51-L crew]) At the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, on January 31, 1986, a service was held to honor the memory of the astronauts lost in the disaster three days before. This is lightly-edited, professional footage of the speakers and audience at that service, who included President Ronald W. Reagan.
