Summary:

Kayardild is a member of the non Pama-Nyungan, Tangkic family or languages, and traditionally was spoken by the Kaiadilt people of the Southern Wellesley Islands, situated off the north coast of Australia in the Gulf or Carpentaria. At the time of writing Kayardild is spoken in its traditional form by just one speaker, aged in her mid-eighties. A cohort or younger speakers of around sixty years of age speak a variety of Kayardild, similar to the traditional language. Book jacket.
