- Summary:
- This report is presented by the National Academies' Committee on Increasing National Resilience to Hazards and Disasters, which consisted of individuals in physical science and engineering, geographical science, social and behavioral science, economics, and public health. It addresses ways to increase resilience to disasters through a vision of the characteristics of a resilient nation in 2030. It has been informed by published information, committee members' expertise, and experiences shared by communities in three parts of the US. It defines national resilience and frames the main issues related to increasing it in the US; provides goals, baseline conditions, and performance metrics; describes the state of knowledge about resilience to hazards and disasters; and outlines additional information, data, gaps, and obstacles that need to be addressed to increase resilience. It also proposes recommendations for increasing resilience. There is no index. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
