William Hirst (c1649-1717) was one of the larger property owners in Salem, Massachussetts in the late 17th c. and it's likely that he bought this book at its issue in 1687. He was also a selectman. His sister is Elizabeth Price nee Hirst (?-1750) wife of Major Walter Price (1676-1731) [later captain].
