- Summary:
- The 12 studies on Sufi communities in Central Asia were originally published between 1988 and 2005, and DeWeese (central Eurasian studies, Indiana U.-Bloomington) selected them because they explored previously unstudied sources in order to identify prominent developments in the social and organizational history of the major Sufi groupings of the region. Among the topics are the eclipse of the Kubraviyah in Central Asia, the 17th-century Yasavi hagiography Manaqib al-akhyar, Baba Kamal Jandi and the Kubravi tradition among the Turks of Central Asia, the rhetoric of communal uniqueness in the Manaqib of Khoja 'Ali 'Azizan Ramitani, the Yasavi order and Persian hagiography in 17th-century Central Asia, and two narratives on Najm al-Din Kubra and Razi al-Din 'Ali Lala from a 13th-century manuscript in Rampur's Raza Library.
