- Summary:
- This is the story of a little-known yet important player in the last days of the western frontier. Soldier, engineer, and politician, Alexander Brodie overcame personal tragedy and personal challenges to serve his country not only in the Indian wars of the West, but also as an officer of the "cowboy cavalry" that invaded Cuba, and eventually as territorial governor of Arizona. Brodie was a direct participant in the colorful history of the Southwest as the nineteenth century turned toward the twentieth, and as the last raw remnants of the frontier struggled toward statehood. No less than the celebrated Teddy Roosevelt counted Brodie as a friend, confidant, and professional colleague of the highest order. Book jacket.
