Summary:
Although the apocalyptic Trinity has been enacted in the imaginative works of poets and thinkers such as Milton, Blake, and Hegel, never before has it been conceived in fully theological terms. This work is an unprecedented voyage into the apocalyptic Trinity that, Altizer proposes, is the final realization of the uniquely Christian Godhead by virtue of being the consummation of the apocalyptic movement of the Trinity in the advent of an absolutely new Trinity.
Thus Altizer undertakes nothing less than a radical rethinking of the theology of the Trinity, forcing into question our dominant understanding of this dogma and symbol. At the same time this work aims to restore the Trinity to centrality within Christian theology and existence. The Apocalyptic Trinity seeks to call forth a uniquely Christian Godhead that embodies absolute apocalypse-that very apocalypse originally enacted by Jesus as apocalyptic prophet. Book jacket.
