Summary:
After touring the world as a trumpeter with orchestras and popular music groups for over a decade, Kaminski studied ethnomusicology and anthropology and now teaches world music at universities and colleges in New York City. Based on his research into the ntahera and other ivory trumpet music in Ghana in 2001 and 2003, he places that tradition in historical and cultural contexts and examines ensemble structures and musical logistics. His information comes mainly from interviews, field recordings, transcriptions, and analysis but also from written, archaeological, and linguistic accounts.
