Summary:
The course was designed to inform young scientists about the rapid development in both experimental and theoretical aspects of laser-plasma acceleration over the past decade, which has been inspired by developments in ultra-intense, ultra-short pulse lasers. The laser-plasma community and the high-energy community are now working together toward the goal of miniature accelerators. The 12 lectures have been expanded for publication. The topics include the physics of high-intensity laser-plasma interactions, particle beam diagnostics and control, preliminary results of the self-injection test experiment at the FLAME laser facility, the laser-driven acceleration of ions, the polarization of laser-accelerated ions, and radiation protection for laser-based accelerators.
