Summary:
In a revised version of his 2008 doctoral dissertation in classics at Princeton University, Noriega-Olmos presents, not a running commentary on the passage in Aristotle's treatise, but a detailed discussion of textual, philological, and philosophical aspects of it. This involves making explicit the assumptions in the text and tracking them back to other parts of Aristotle's works, in particular to De anima. He revaluates the first chapter of De interpretatione in order to reconstruct both its implicit theory of signification and the psychological foundations of that theory, which he finds in De anima.
