- Summary:
- Boswell (Folger Shakespeare Library, US) and Braden (U. of Virginia) compile all references to Italian writer Petrarch (1304-74) or quotations from his works in printed sources throughout the anglophone world up to 1700. They include works printed in English on the continent and elsewhere, and foreign-language works printed in England and Scotland. No attempt was made to encompass manuscripts. The entries are arranged chronologically, and within individual years alphabetically by author's surnames or initials if known, and otherwise by short title. References include the English work's number in popular indexes. Later editions are cited but cross-referenced to the first entry rather than repeated. In addition to a general index--mostly of names and titles--there is an index of entry numbers arranged by Petrarch's works. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
