- Summary:
- Benigno Beltran is a Society of the Divine Word priest in the Philippines. He lived for decades on a mountain of trash in the center of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, known as Smokey Mountain. In this short account of his time there, he focuses on his intense religious experiences within himself and in interacting with other scavengers and mountain-dwellers. He is a devout believer in God and sees Smokey Mountain as a blight and source of reflection for our blighted culture of scientific materialism.
