Summary:
Although it mentions in the preface that there is a diversity of Native American communities across North America, there is one common element: the women have higher rates than non-natives of the five leading causes of female death, as well as larger incidents of depression and obesity-related diseases. This collection of papers by women scholars views these issues through a social lens, looking at subjects ranging from food security to domestic violence. In addition to being the editors, Joe (family and community medicine, U. of California, Berkeley) and Gachupin (Human Resource Protection Office, U. of New Mexico, Albuquerque) are also the authors of two respective chapters.
