Summary:
Belgian theologian van Helmont (1614-99), in his Adumbration Kabbalae Christiana attempted to Christianize the form of Kabbalism taught by 16th-century Palestinian Isaac Luria. An American scholar of mysticism, Spector says it was the only detailed demonstration of the congruences between the New Testament and an adapted form of Lurianic Kabbalism, and created the foundation for virtually every version of Christian Kabbalism since the 17th century. His effort was part of a larger movement to develop a syncratic form of Christianity to unify the many factions, in which Kabbalism formed a central role. She presents a facsimile of the original Latin, with facing pages of English translation, supported by full scholarly paraphernalia. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
