Summary:
The Premyslids were a middle European dynasty that ruled Bohemia and Moravia from the 880s to 1306, says Kalhous (early medieval history, Masaryk U., Brno, Czech Republic), and are virtually unknown to anglophone scholars. He offers a study for English readers who are interested in them or the territory, but also to compare to other parts of Europe to help clarify the processes involved in state formation. His topics include the territorial extent and development of the Premyslid realm, the origins of ecclesiastical organization in the Czech lands, Legenda Christiani as a 10th-century source, and Old Church Slavonic literature and liturgy in the Premyslid realm during the 10th and 11th centuries.
