- "Yamuna, a young [widow], stays in an orthodox agrahara with her father Udupa, who runs a veda pathashala. Nani, the new entrant to the school, likes her whereas the other pupils dislike her. On the sly, Yamuna befriends the village school teacher and becomes pregnant. She desperately tries to get rid of pregnancy before the orthodox people of the agrahara come to know of it. Her efforts go in vain. Nani in his ... innocent way tries to help her out. But soon the entire village comes to know about Yamuna's relationship. Terming it 'immoral' they decide to outcast her by performing Ghatashraaddha ritual."--Container.
