Summary:

Written and directed by contemporary Swedish filmmaker Lukas Moodysson, the coming-of-age lesbian film Show Me Love (1998) won Swedish awards for best film, best director, best screenplay, and best actors. In this study for students and others, Stenport (Scandinavian studies, cinema and media studies, University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign) draws on interviews with cast and crew, including Moodysson, in this study combining inquiry into production practices with close readings of film sequences and dialogue. The author focuses on two themes of Moodysson's body of work: representations of sexuality and gender, and spatiality as an authentic conveyor of social and affective ambivalence. The book also gives background on Moodysson and his development from poet to filmmaker. It is illustrated with b&w film stills and film promotion posters from Sweden and the US.
