Summary:
This biography of Tom Wintringham, a founding member of the British Communist Party and commander of the British Battalion of the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War, focuses on the 14 months Wintringham spent in Spain, combining info from Wintringham's own memoir, the memoirs of other participants, and archival sources. The book was first published in 2004 by Sutton Publishing Limited. Drawing on new material, this revised edition reveals that Wintringham was arguing for an international legion in July 1936. This edition also contains new information on his relationship with American journalist Kitty Bowler, which led to his expulsion from the Communist Party of Great Britain, and on Wintringham's activities during WWII. There is also new material on his poetry. The book includes b&w historical photos and illustrations, and is distributed in the US by ISBS. Information on the author is not given.
