- Penn Libraries copy is the third of four items, i.e. one manuscript and three printed works, bound together in a single volume. The manuscript is a collection of texts of Latin hymns and prayers (many with German translations), including Conditor alme siderum, Veni redemptor genitum, Christe redemptor omnium, Ave maris stella, Veni creator spiritus and Ave praeclara maris stella. (For a fuller description, see record for: [Hymns and prayers] [manuscript]. [Germany, ca. 1475-1499] (call number: Ms. Codex 1604).) The other two printed works are Liber florum beati Bernardi abbatis Clareuallensis (i.e. St. Bernard of Clairvaux) ([Augsburg] : Impressum est ... in officina Sigismundi Grim[m] ... at[que] Marci Vuirsung, Augustae Vindelicorum ..., MDXIX [1519]) and Secreta sacerdotum magistri Henrici de Hassia (i.e. Heinrich von Langenstein) (Impressum Liptzk : Per Melchiarem Lotterum, Anno millesimo quinge[n]tesimo decimo quinto [1515]).

- Penn Libraries copy has early ms. ownership inscription ("Residentiae Societatis Jesu Oetingae") of the Jesuit house in Altötting, Germany (1591-1773) at head of title leaf; early ms. inscription ("Ex dono R.D. Jo. Heussij S.T. Baccalaurei F. A[nn]o. 1603.") recording the donation of this volume by Jo[annes?] Heussius in 1603 at foot of title leaf.
- Penn Libraries copy bound in one quarter 16th-century blind-tooled pig over square-edge wooden boards; 3 raised bands on spine; ms. spine title ("S. Bernardi Liber Florum") in ink and shelf-marks ("344" written twice) in pencil; remains of 2 leather and metal clasps with metal catchplates; all edges blue.
- Penn Libraries copy has a few early ms. underlines and annotations in text; early ms. contents list and partially illegible inscription ("Vmb 9 b[...]") in brown ink on front pastedown; modern ms. contents list in pencil on front pastedown; lengthy German ms. note dated 1533 on blank leaf at end of volume (i.e. Secreta secretorum, leaf B4).
