Summary:
The course was devoted to the present understanding of the primordial universe and of the origin of the elements as achieved by studying nuclei and their constituents in extreme regions of energy and composition. The 23 papers from the proceedings discuss supernovae and neutron stars, nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics with radioactive beams, the quark-gluon plasma and beyond, low-energy reactions for astrophysics, nuclear structure for astrophysics, and a number of areas explored by selected poster papers. Among the topics are stellar evolution from hydrostatic burning to core collapse, nuclear-astrophysics experiments with relativistic radioactive beams, dark matter as a window to new physics at the electroweak scale, primordial nucleosynthesis in the presence of sterile neutrinos, and a pair spectrometer for measuring electric monopole transitions. The proceedings are not indexed. Co-published with Societá Italiana di Fisica. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
