Summary:
Kimbrough (U. of Pennsylvania-Philadelphia) defines games as strategic interactions, that is, situations in which one agent's actions depend in part on actions of another agent. He looks at problems of play that confront agents who are in, or who would influence, contexts of strategic interaction. One set of questions deals with agents, the strategies they use in a particular context, and evaluating those strategies. Another set of questions involves institutions--a market or a formal game, for example--and how their rules and constraints affect the games within it. The course on which the book as based draws students from business, engineering, biology, psychology and philosophy, he says. Most of the little mathematics necessary is sequestered in appendices.
