- 本书从史料出发, 全面, 系统地研究中国现代乡土文学理论的流变, 包括从1917-1949年时段内乡土文学理论的发生, 发展与变迁, 主要探询存在之由, 变迁之故, 也即乡土文学理论在特定的历史语境中, 是如何因国情现实, 文艺思潮, 意识形态的变化而变化的, 并探讨乡土文学理论的变迁对现代乡土文学面貌的影响.本书历时性地追踪了乡土文学基本理论问题的时代变迁, 认为中国现代乡土文学理论大致经历了早期带有"阐释"性质的理论建构, 以及后来带有"立法"性质的理论言说两个阶段, 在这两个阶段中, 自由主义者的乡土文学理论与左翼乡土文学理论, 既不是平行发展, 也不是对立抗衡, 而是发生了汇流与断裂.
