- Summary:
- On one hand, the work of painter Günter Fruhtrunk (1923-1982) is part of the tradition of abstract, geometric, twentieth-century art, but on the other, it has a very unique place, internationally. The Munich-born artist was interested in Suprematism and Constructivism, and pursued an artistic path that made the desire for personal expression completely secondary to the work itself. He was one of the stars at the documenta IV in 1968, where his paintings of colorful bands created a furor. This is the first publication in many years to provide insight into the wealth of Fruhtrunk's oeuvre. Waiting to be discovered is an artist for whom the sensual value of color as a matter of significance is closely linked to the abstract form.
