Summary:
This report, prepared under the auspices of a broader program on cities and climate change undertaken by the Urban Development and Local Government Unit of the World Bank, proposes a framework for carrying out urban risk assessment and planning for natural disasters and climate change. By drawing on lessons from existing efforts and the broader urban planning literature and collaborating with a range of international, private, public, and nongovernmental organizations, the authors of the report hope to strengthen coherence and consensus around these topics among their target audience: city managers, mayors, and others involved in developing urban policy; urban practitioners and technical staff at the municipal, regional, and national levels; and international organizations.
