- Summary:
- This publication from the World Bank is an education status report prepared at the request of the government of newly independent South Sudan. The report finds a number of challenges for the South Sudan school system, including concentration of students in early grades; a high proportion of overage students, repetition, and dropout; and weak levels of student learning--problems that they note disproportionately impact poor, rural, female, and overage students. The report also finds that educational resources could be allocated and deployed more efficiently and that the overall quality of education needs to become a priority for the South Sudan government. Finally, the report highlights the promise of the accelerated learning programs of South Sudan's Alternative Education System. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
