- Summary:
- While significant research has been conducted on the Sikh diaspora communities of the West, very little has been conducted on the Sikh communities that settled in Southeast Asia, despite the fact that they arrived much earlier and are now into their fifth generation. This volume addresses that gap by gathering 14 papers from an eponymous May 2008 conference held at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore, that bring together empirical research on Sikhs in Brunei, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. The papers address such topics as entrepreneurship, identity construction and negotiation, gender, and ethnic politics. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
