In an effort to heal from the past, 17 women who fled South Africa during the apartheid era describe their journeys, their losses, lessons learned from exile, and their returns to their homes in South Africa. Coming from many different backgrounds, they tell of discrimination and danger at home and in their adopted countries, and portray the isolation and fragmentation of their identities as they attempt to adapt to their new countries and make new connections.
