Of specific interest to scholars of the sociology of New Zealand, this volume on the development of identity tracks the lives of young people who came of age during the period of neoliberal social and political policies during the 1980s and 1990s. The study explores the effects of neoliberal ideology on the development of careers, spiritual resources, gender expectations, and identity, and discusses the key sociological pressures of this particular time. Nairn is a professor of education at the University of Otago, New Zealand, Higgins is a researcher in economics and youth studies at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and Sligo is a research fellow in next generation studies at the University of Otago.
