- Summary:
- This work examines the gendered frontline experiences of male German Jewish soldiers of World War I. The author discusses the soldiers' image of the nurse "as both one of religious salvation and pornographic fantasy," as well as encounters with Jewish prostitutes on the Eastern Front. By gendering German-Jewish history, the author seeks to move beyond the binaries prevalent in the field and understand the German Jews as German agents of history and not merely as (future) victims of anti-Semitism.
