- Summary:
- Part of the Dumbarton Oaks Medieval Library, this work contains two texts that crossed the Mediterranean in Late Antiquity: The Apocalypse of Pseudo-Methodius and An Alexandrian World Chronicle, presented along with the Excerpta (a narrative of the gods and another account of Alexander). This handsome version is translated by Garstad (humanities, Grant MacEwan U.) and presented in the original Greek and Latin with facing page translations. The Apocalypse influenced thought surrounding the end of the world and responses to exotic Mongol and Turk invaders throughout the middle ages, even contributing to legends about Alexander the Great. An Alexandrian World Chronicle is an early example of the Christian chronicle tradition presenting a universal chronicle of the times with a comprehensive ethnography and geography.
