Summary:
Plummer (emeritus, architecture, U. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) has undertaken an unusual presentation of icons and new gems of Scandinavian architecture. He has arranged presentation of some 50 buildings in sections pertaining to qualities of light: whiteness, rhythm, journey (space and beacons), carving (shaping of light), forest, transiency, tranquility, diffusion, and darkness. The structures are each described in text and showcased in a generous number of photos, presented in an oversize format (10.5x11"). A bibliography, directory of architects, and listing of places to visit conclude the volume. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
