Summary:
Dever (emeritus, Near Eastern archaeology and anthropology, U. of Arizona-Tucson) presents a heavily illustrated handbook primarily for non-specialist students of the Hebrew Bible, but there are some technical details in the notes and bibliography that he thinks could interest his colleagues. He confines the treatment to the eighth century BCE, from the end of the Aramean incursions in the north to the Neo-Assyrian campaigns in Judah during 701. Among his topics are the natural setting, cities and towns, socioeconomic structures, religion and cult, and warfare and the end. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
