Summary:
Poet, novelist and short story writer as well as a scholar, Ojaide (Africana studies. U. of North Caroline-Charlotte) has spent several years reassessing African literature from multiple perspectives, including interdisciplinary, ethical, and scholar-poet. Even more than most literature, he contends, African literature is tightly bound to issues such as globalization, conflict management, environmental and ecological concerns, and human rights. He feels that literary criticism must acknowledge those supposed non-literary aspects. His topics include examining canonization, deploying modern African literature towards the environment and human rights, writing in pidgin English, deploying masculinity in African oral poetic performance, and continuity and change.
