- Summary:
- Carpets woven by Jews are little studied compared to those made by Muslims in medieval Spain. As the author of perhaps the first ever book on carpets with Jewish symbols, Felton (M. Phil, Jewish studies) fills a gap in textile/cultural history by discussing the role of carpets in Jewish culture and the symbolism of specific carpets(e.g., the Vizcaya carpet in the Vizcaya Museum, Miami), in the context of Jewish settlement and persecution in Spain. The book includes a color photo gallery of objects with Jewish symbols, a summary of the main references to stars and other symbols in the text, and a glossary. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
