- Drawn from the massive encyclopedia Index Islamicus and substantially updated through the authors' research, this 2-volume bibliography lists publications in all European languages (except Turkish), grouped according to subject, with those concerning art in Vol.1 and architecture in Vol.2. The material is grouped by media, with general works followed by sub-divisions by country or geographic area, and these groupings divided into books and articles. Entries are alphabetical by author, with multiple editions and later editors noted. Many of the entries are annotated, noting information about the work's translator, illustrations, subject matter, or connection to an exhibition, among other topics. Separate sections are included in Vol.1 on excavation sites, museums and libraries, a full range of artistic media, orientalism, and east-west interaction. In addition to division by geographic area, the volume on architecture includes a section on gardens and parks and Islamic buildings in non-Islamic countries. Beautifully produced and thoughtfully assembled, this impressive work will be an essential resource for students and scholars of the history of art and architecture and of Islamic culture and history.
